In an alley in the SoMa area of San Francisco, CA. This was an awesome location and I'm loving what I'm getting with this new portable lighting system I bought.
I've uploaded this and several other photos from last Saturday's shoot to my flickr account. The model, Brima, was great to work with.
With my extremely light work schedule right now I'm amping up my focus on photography. To that end I bought a flash set to give me light control when shooting remotely, which is about 90% of my shoots. It arrived in the mail on Wednesday and after figuring out what all the pieces are parts were I realized I forgot to order one critical component: the receiving half of my wireless transmitter. That arrived Friday morning just a couple hours before a shoot that afternoon. I did a rapid learn of how to use the equipment and was pleased with my initial results. There is so much more I need to learn about making the most of this equipment, but my photos were already improved with the little I know now.
I've joined Model Mayhem to connect with people who want to be or already are actual models (as opposed to the friend of a friend that I convinced to get naked for me and let me photograph him). I had a shoot with my first contact from there this past Saturday and it went amazingly well. He was creative, professional, fun to work with, and gave me a wide range of expressions and poses. He and I have several more shoots planned already and I love the idea of having a repeating model to help me explore some creative ideas. I'll post some pics from Saturday's shoot in the next few days.
I have another shoot scheduled this Thursday with different model from the Model Mayhem site. I hope this second experience is as positive as the first was. Doing shoots with real models is so interesting. I find I need to do a lot more planning and visioning since I can accomplish a lot more with these people. Since they are also wanting unique shots for their own portfolios I'm allowing myself to explore some more artistic ideas and seeing what we can get. I'm having a great time with it.
I feel so professional with an umbrella stand and real models. Now if only "professional" actually equaled some money I'd be pretty much inconsolably blissful.
So I weaseled my way out of work early on Thursday and joined my men up in Guerneville to enjoy a few days of sunning, flirting, dancing chilling around the tent and hanging out with new and old friends. I had so much fun that I would have enjoyed another day or two of it. And I didn't sunburn once. Go SPF 50!
