Here in B'more they used recycled crushed glass in the paving of the streets. Sometimes at night looking down Charles Street towards the Washington Monument it looks like there's glitter on the street.
Then again, the area (Mt. Vernon) is also known as "Homo Heights", so maybe this isn't exclusive to the other "City By The Bay"...

The Mt. Vernon area of B'more is where most of the gay bars & restaurants are. Also, the Baltimore Symphony, the Lyric Opera House, Chained Desires (a fetish shop), and MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art)... It doesn't take a genius to figure out how it got it's nick-name!
Also, the 800 block of Park Ave has been known as "The Meat Rack" since the end of WWII. Love for sale by 'rent boys'...
